President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with key political figures from Rivers State in a bid to resolve the lingering political crisis affecting the state.
The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, brought together the suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara; the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule; and other lawmakers from the state.
It will be recalled that on March 18, 2025, Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the entire House of Assembly over growing insecurity and a breakdown in governance.
Thursday’s meeting is seen as a major step toward reconciliation, with photos from the event showing President Tinubu, Governor Fubara, and Minister Wike sharing smiles, indicating a possible thaw in tensions.
According to sources within the presidency, the discussions played a key role in mending the rift among the warring factions and restoring prospects for effective governance in the oil-rich state.
