FG shut down three airports over coronavirus (see names of airports)

The Federal Government has shut down three international airports in the Nigeria over coronavirus pandemic.

Onyxnewsng reports that President Muhammadu Buhari orders the shut down of the airports late on Thursday 19 March as part of precautionary measure to curb the wide spread of the pandemic disease.

The online news platform understands that the three airports shut by the administration of President Buhari are Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu; and the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.

Onyxnewsng reports that the development was contained in a statement signed by the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, Capt. Musa Nuhu.

Capt Nuhu said the three airports would be closed indefinitely with effect, 00:01hours, Saturdays, 21 March.

Captain Nuhu said the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos would still be opened but no flight from the thirteen COVID-19 high-risk countries would be allowed into the country.

Meanwhile, this is happening in less than 24 hours after the Federal Government has shut down schools nationwide over coronavirus in Nigeria.

The Federal Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of all schools which include: tertiary institutions, secondary and primary schools nationwide as part of the preventive measures to stop the further spread of coronavirus in the country.

On Thursday, the Lagos State Ministry of Health confirmed it has four new cases of COVID-19. This was announced by the State Commissioner of Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi. And on Wednesday, the Federal Ministry of Health announced five new cases including a 6-week old baby and her mother. This brought a total of 12 cases in Nigeria.

One of the first two cases has since tested negative with the index case, an Italian believed to be on his way to testing negative too. In the briefing on Thursday, Abayomi said 19 people were tested with four of them testing positive.

The Commissioner of Health said the first of the four new cases who tested positive to the disease was a woman who had contact with the woman who came from the United Kingdom some days ago who was tested positive.

According to Abayomi, the second new case was a female who returned from France on March 14 on a Turkish airline TK 1830. The third case was a Nigerian male in his 50s who had not travelled anywhere but was tested positive to the disease.
