BREAKING: More than dozens escape death as another building partially collapses in Lagos (PHOTOS)
Dozens of residents in Iyana Ipaja axis of Agege Local Government in Lagos State on Thursday escaped death as a one-storey building partially collapsed in the area.
The incident happened around 1:10 p.m. during a heavy rainfall.
Confirming the development, Director-General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement made available to newsmen, hinted that no life was lost and none of the residents sustained injuries.
Oke-Osanyintolu further disclosed that buildings within the community would be subjected to Structural Integrity Test (SIP) to ascertain if they were still habitable.
He said: “Upon arrival at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that a one-storey building consisting of 8 rooms, 23 shops, and one store had partially collapsed.
“A further investigation carried out by LASEMA Response Team (LRT) revealed that the adjoining fence to the staircase collapsed. And the building affected toilet of an adjacent building”.
While confirming that the exercise was still ongoing, the LASEMA boss stated the affected structures have been cordoned off and integrity testing would be carried out on them.
On Wednesday, LASEMA recovered the bodies of two children who died in another collapsed building at Ogudu area of the state.
The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. at No 46 Gafari Balogun street, Ogudu area during a heavy rainfall.
The Director-General of LASEMA, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the the agency received an emergency call about a collapsed building at the location mentioned.
“On arrival at the scene by agency responders, it was observed that a building collapsed as a result of a mudslide at the rear of the building caused by heavy rainfall.
“The agents were informed that two children, one male and one female were trapped and immediately commenced a search and rescue operation.
“Unfortunately, they were found dead and their remains are being transported to the mortuary,” Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said.
Other occupants of the house were reportedly injured as a result of the collapse.
Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said the building has been cordoned off and integrity testing will be carried out on it.
