Reps on investigative hearing on inhuman treatment of Navy Seaman Goshit by Rear Admiral IO Mohammed (Video)

House of Representatives has on Thursday explained that there is a need to look into the recent issue in the Nigerian Navy.
Onyxnews Nigeria reports that this was said by the House of Representatives Committee Chairman on Navy, Yussuf Gardi at the National Assembly, Abuja; during an investigative hearing on the alleged inhuman treatment of Nigerian Navy Personnel, Seaman Haruna Goshit by Rear Admiral I.O Mohammed.
Hon. Gadi said the conduct of the Committee should be together with protecting the Personnel of the Nigerian Navy and protect the Navy as an institution.
Onyxnews Nigeria reports that the Committee recalled a video which was shared by Seaman Haruna Goshit that had already gone viral, the video contained a lot of allegations, which the House at plenary considered as a Matter of Urgent Public Importance, looking at the weighty allegations leveled against the Rear Admiral by Seaman Haruna Goshit.
The lawmaker said, the issue haven gone viral, there’s need for the House to let the public know that the House of Representatives stand for the Nigerian people, hence the public hearing.
Hon. Gardi’s words: “This Committee is not going to delve into the disciplinary military procedures. Our priority is, if what seaman Haruna Goshit said is true, we should protect him and protect the institution from future occurrence of such within the Military.
“But the Committee has resolved to, if there would be clearer public hearing and fairness to both parties to study very well the volumes of the documents and the evidences you attached here so that when we sit with you next time, the Committees are better informed on the content of his allegations and that what he said in the social media should be what we have heard in paper.
“We equally put them at par with the Navy presentation and see where we are going to ensure there is justice in this public hearing”, he said
He assure that his committee will be just and fair, therefore, took the advice of members of the committee and declared that the preceding may not continue because they had informed the parties to avail then their written submission prior to this time.
Hon Gardi further pointed out that, the House will not support any officer who exhibits insubordination on his or her duty.
He also noted that: “It is going to be his own business with the disciplinary committee.
But our instruction to the Navy is that, Seaman Haruna Goshit must be safe and sound where we need him, he must be here and he should be allowed equally to discharge his Naval responsibility to the best of his ability pending when this Committee will study and equally give you time immediately to appear before us based on an informed documentary submission you have made to all of us…”
