AFCON 2023: Super Eagles Draw Against Equatorial Guinea In Match Opener
The Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea ended with a 1-1 draw in the opener of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Equatorial Guinea took the lead with a goal by Ivan Edu in the 35th minute, but Nigeria quickly responded with Victor Osimhen scoring a header off of Ademola Lookman’s cross.
Nigeria dominated possession early on and missed a chance to take the lead.
The second half saw Equatorial Guinea’s goalkeeper making several crucial saves, while Nigeria faced a setback with the injury of midfielder Alhassan Yusuf.
The match ended with Osimhen missing a chance to secure the win for Nigeria.
Equatorial Guinea will next play Guinea-Bissau while Nigeria will face Ivory Coast in their upcoming AFCON fixtures.
