Mass Failure Sparks JAMB’s Emergency Review of 2025 UTME Results

In a dramatic response to mounting public outrage, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has scheduled a comprehensive review of the 2025 UTME results for Thursday.

This move follows widespread protests from candidates and parents over what many describe as “unusual” low scores and alleged technical malfunctions during the exam.

The review panel will include top academic administrators-vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts-alongside examiners and IT experts from various educational bodies. The board’s official statement reads, “The management has approved your participation to be part of the review panel constituted to appraise the conduct of the examination with the mandate to identify challenges, if any, and proffer relevant recommendations to prevent a recurrence.”

Out of nearly two million candidates, over 75 percent scored below 200 marks, an alarming statistic that has cast doubt on the examination’s integrity. Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede insisted, “The performance statistics are consistent with those of the last 12 years,” but this has done little to quell the uproar.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesman, confirmed the board is investigating complaints from several states and is committed to resolving any technical glitches. Education Minister Dr. Tunji Alausa credited the high failure rate to successful anti-cheating efforts. Candidates who experienced technical disruptions are promised a retake opportunity. Yet, many remain skeptical, demanding transparency on scoring methodologies.
