BREAKING: Tinubu Suspends Minister Betta Edu Over N585.189 Controversy
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has been suspended from office with immediate effect by President Bola Tinubu.
The suspension comes in light of an ongoing investigation into a financial irregularity involving the transfer of N585.189 million by the Minister.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated that appropriate action would be taken following the conclusion of the investigation.
The funds, which were intended for vulnerable groups in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ogun, and Lagos states, were reportedly diverted into a private account, leading to public outcry and demands for Edu’s dismissal and prosecution.
A leaked document, signed by Edu and directed to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, revealed that the money was disbursed into the private account of Bridget Mojisola Oniyelu.
Edu’s statement, issued via her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Rasheed Zubair, maintains that the payment followed due process.
Further details will be provided in due course…
