17 Dead as Suspected Herders Attack Benue Communities

Seventeen people have lost their lives in fresh attacks by suspected herders in Benue State, according to police confirmation. The violence erupted in the Sankera axis, affecting Gbagir in Ukum and parts of Logo Local Government Areas.
Police PRO Catherine Anene recounted, “A large number of suspected militia invaded Sankera axis with intention to attack communities around Gbagir.” Tactical teams responded swiftly, but the attackers managed to kill five in Gbagir and twelve in Logo before being repelled.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Steve H. Yabanet, ordered immediate reinforcement and coordination with other security agencies. Security forces remain engaged with the assailants, who have retreated toward the Taraba border.
Anene warned against misinformation and assured the public of ongoing efforts to secure the region, urging residents to support police initiatives.
