JAMB Responds to Mass Failure Claims; Hires IT Experts to Investigate 2025 UTME Anomalies

Following the release of the 2025 UTME results, which showed a significant number of candidates scoring below expectations, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has initiated an investigation into alleged technical glitches affecting the examination.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s spokesperson, confirmed that the board is expediting its annual post-exam review to address “unusual complaints” from a few states. The review includes a comprehensive examination of the registration, test administration, and result dissemination phases.
“To assist in this process, we have engaged a range of experts including IT professionals, chief external examiners, educational assessment bodies, and university vice chancellors,” Benjamin said.
The controversy escalated when Alex Onyia, an education advocate, disclosed that 8,391 students have complained about the exam glitches, threatening legal action. Onyia criticized the exam system’s inefficiency and called for transparency, urging JAMB to provide detailed mark sheets and a dispute resolution process.
JAMB reassured the public that if glitches are confirmed, remedial measures will be implemented swiftly. The board also highlighted its practice of rescheduling exams for candidates impacted by technical difficulties to maintain fairness.
