Abuja Court Gives Reason For Granting Bail To 32yr Man After Defiling Minor
An Upper Area Court of Gwagwalada sitting in Abuja, has given reason for granting bail to a 32 years old man, Emmanuel Joseph, after defiling an eight-year-old girl.
Joseph who was charged with indecent assault of a minor was grated N300, 000 bail by a Judge, Malam Sani Umar, after pleading guilty, and postponed his sentencing to August 17, 2023 for further hearing.
According to the judge, the reason for postponing the sentencing and granting the convict bail was for him to pay in full the N35,000 spent by the victim’s mother in the hospital to treat the victim from bruises she sustained from the act.
The judge noted that, after the N300, 000 bail, the convict who resides in the Gosa Area of Abuja would provide one reliable surety in like sum, who must also reside within the jurisdiction of the court, must deposit the sum of N70,000 to the court for the security of the bail, provide valid means of identification and the surety must provide two recent passport photographs in which the address would be verified by the court’s staff.

Earlier in the court, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Abdullahi Tanko, told the court that the complainant Mary Gambo of Gosa Angwan Tiv, airport road Abuja, reported the matter at Iddo police station on June 9.
Tanko said that the convict who was the complainant’s boyfriend, on June 6 assaulted her eight year old daughter, which offence contravened the provision of Section 285 of the Penal Code.
