Additionally, the controversial Islamic scholar denied having sympathy for bandits, as many Nigerians claimed following his crusade for their welfare. Gumi, who was responding to a comment on his Facebook post titled ‘War Has Never Been a Solution Anywhere, Anytime,’ stated that he is a patriotic Nigerian who adores his country, region, state, people, and humanity in general.

“You bootlicker who called me a bandit lover, I am not a bandit over; I am a country-lover, a region-lover, a state-lover, a people-lover, and a humanity-lover,” the cleric wrote.
“I am a board-certified medical doctor who understands what it takes to precisely excise a brain tumour without causing damage to the delicate brain tissues surrounding it. I was a commissioned military officer who understands the purpose of the military and the capabilities of our military. I am an intellectual with an international PhD.

“As an Islamic scholar, I am aware of the immorality of murdering innocent people. Thus, silence is not an option for me in this ocean of oblivion. He observed that the government’s actions against bandits are akin to killing rats with an iron rod in a room full of rats.
He warned against military action against bandits, claiming that politicians had benefited significantly from the country’s Fulani insurgency.
“Only a fool would allow his home to be used as a battleground. Regrettably, how many fools exist? Using an iron rod to kill rats in your rat-infested sitting room will likely destroy your gadgets and furniture without actually killing any [rats]. We should not use artillery power to conceal our poor governance.
“Some duplicitous individuals assert that ‘peace and negotiations with herders and bandits have failed, and your mission has failed.’ I assert that my mission has not failed; rather, it has been sabotaged or discouraged by the same powerful people who profit from chaos or who want us to self-destruct and leave the herdsmen in perpetual ignorance.”
Sheikh Gumi reiterated his call for bandits to be reintegrated into society and for the establishment of a ministry for herders.
Meanwhile, Femi Adesina, the Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Special Duties, had previously chastised Sheikh Gumi for claiming bandits would vanish in the face of the Nigerian military’s onslaught against them.
